A Response that Points towards Peace

Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the new prime minister of Ethiopia, had, on 5 June 2018, announced the full acceptance and unconditional implementation of the final and binding decision of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission. Responding to the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s announcement of full acceptance and unconditional implementation of the boundary demarcation, President Isaias Afewerki has today, on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, 20 June 2018, announced Eritrea’s willingness to actively engage and send a delegation to Addis Ababa to directly and deeply explore the prospects.

Eri-Platform welcomes this positive response. We would like to take this opportunity to express our great hope that the bilateral discussions to follow would be fruitful; bring a just resolution to the anomalous situation affecting the people in the borderlands arising from the war and its consequences; and pave the way to stable peace and normal relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
