Eri-Platform warmly welcomes the decision of the Executive Committee of the ruling Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) to fully and unequivocally accept the Algiers Agreement and unconditionally implement the demarcation decision of the Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC). This bold, commendable but long overdue decision should translate into the immediate withdrawal of Ethiopian forces from sovereign Eritrean territory and the start of bilateral discussions between the governments of Eritrea and Ethiopia to address all outstanding issues and normalise relations between the two countries. The government of Eritrea should show good faith and respond in kind. Expeditious resolution of the boundary issue would, hopefully, bring the abnormal no war, no peace situation to an end, restore friendly relations and pave the way for a new era of political and economic cooperation in the paramount interest of the fraternal Eritrean and Ethiopian peoples.
